Hadithi, how it started.

Hadithi, how it started.

Haditihi Crafts, our partner in Kenya for woven baskets is soon launching their new capsule collection. One that invites color, ready to welcome spring into your home. A perfect time to take a closer look at this workshop, its founder and talented artisans.

Here's how it started.

Back in 2009, founder Lore Defrancq went on holiday in Kenya, not knowing how it would impact her life. In the Tsavo area, she met these skillful artisans living below the poverty line and was immediately motivated to change their lives. With Hadithi Crafts, she links these talented individuals to a global market, providing them with the means to earn a livelihood and support their families. Ensuring the well-being of these artisans is at the heart of everything Lore does.

Since the start of Hadithi Crafts in 2014, this organization has grown to support 64 women groups and 1902 artisans, but there’s so much more left to do! Our mission to support local communities through the sales of their handicrafts has a ripple effect that extends beyond economic and social empowerment, working towards a harmonious relationship between the people and the natural environment they coexist with.

”Life has changed since i started to weave baskets. My children go to school. I can buy food, clothes. Life is better now. I feel good, it gives me money and i sleep well at night.” - Janeliza Mkamburi, member of a traditional fineweave group.
